SpeedFactory’s Insane SF600R Dodge Challenger

If the current Dodge Challenger doesn’t quite ring true to your 70s-era muscle car memories, SpeedFactory Cars has taken a big step to cure your muscle car blues. Do you think that 427 cubes and 600 charging ponies will do the trick? I thought so.

That kind of big power has a special story, because this Mopar specialist has a history of shredding the envelope of conventional thinking. Last year, they built the first supercharged all-aluminum 440 HEMI Challenger which debuted at Mopar Alley at the 2009 SEMA show. Before that, the group’s R&D Charger set a world record for the fastest 1/4 mile time for an LX platform car.

So, when it comes to amping up a Challenger, their compass surely points in the right direction. Starting from a 6.1-liter HEMI engine block, displacement is increased to 7.0-liters (426ci) by boring out the cylinders and adding a forged stroker crankshaft. Coupled with ported heads and intake manifold, a revised cam and Predator tuning, the end result is certain to bring back cherished memories from the 70s. The 10.5:1 compression ratio will demand high octane gas for best performance, but coupled with the 85mm throttle body, Mopar cold air intake and low restriction Borla exhaust, this mill will reward every tap of your right foot.

Keeping it all between the ditches is another challenge, that SpeedFactory addresses with suspension revisions and meaty tires that run on 20″ x 9″ BBS Flow-Formed CHR wheels. A staggered fitment is optional, providing 10.5-inch wide rear wheels.

When your DNA finds the roar of an all-motor powerhouse superior to the whine of a supercharger, these speed freaks have a solution for you.

2011 Dodge Charger Police Pursuit Vehicle

Posted on: August 27, 2010 – 8:50 am by RLD

You have the right to remain awed by the new 2011 Charger and should you not already posses a healthy amount of respect for Dodge’s newest road warrior; some will definitely be appointed to you. Since its original introduction in 2006, the Charger PPV has reigned supreme as the fastest purpose-built pursuit vehicle on the market. Now, it’s even better than before. Beneath the hood gurgles either the brand new E-85 capable 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with variable-valve timing (VVT) or the 5.7-liter HEMI™ V-8 engine with fuel-saving Multi-displacement System (MDS), depending on which one your chief decided to spring for. The dedication to more efficient, responsive performance is mirrored inside with the new Police Interface Module, designed with input from the Dodge brand Police Advisory Board to accommodate the unique demands of an officer’s job. To ensure that those who protect us are always protected themselves, the new PPV also comes equipped with standard advanced multistage driver and front-passenger air bags, seat-mounted side-thorax air bags, supplemental side-curtain air bags for front and rear outboard passengers, driver’s knee bag, tire-pressure monitoring and more.

The new model will officially be available for order in September 2010, so BOLO.

2011 Dodge Charger Revealed On Fast and Furious 5

by Chris Demorro on August 24, 2010
When the Dodge Charger first returned to the Chrysler lineup, many were furious that Chrysler could take an iconic muscle car name and turn it into a four-door sedan. Since then, the Charger has carved a nice niche out for itself as a manly sedan, and in many precincts, as a replacement cop car for the aging Crown Victoria.

One eagle-eyed AutoBlog reader spotted some 2011 Dodge Chargers in police guise down in Puerto Rico on the set of the fifth “Fast and the Furious,” and we like what we see for 2011.

The Charger has been long overdue for an update, and the subtle changes are numerous and drastically improve the character of the car. The most prominent difference comes at the rear end, where the a one-piece tail lamp stretching across the entire trunk lid replaces the old dual tail lamps. A new rear diffuser employs new exhaust tips as well, and it really looks great.

On the front end, the changes are less drastic. The new head lamps are more angular and aggressive, as is the bumper and hood. The inside has received a bit more updating though, with brushed aluminum and new gauges. There also appears to be a push-button start system, as well as steering wheel-integrated audio and cruise controls.

The 2011 Chargers were dressed up as police vehicles for a chase scene involving two 2010 Chargers dragging a safe down a busy Brazilian street. We’re definitely more excited about the Chargers than the movie, but we’ll probably go see it just to see Dodge’s new sedan in action. Enjoy the pictures and head over to AutoBlog to see some more.

Fully accessorized with Mopar components from the factory, the Mopar ‘10 Challenger starts with a 5.7-liter Challenger R/T and adds a custom hood with heat venting and hood pins, front and rear tower braces, cold air intake and a unique engine cover.

Limited to 500 units and available in both the USA and Canada, the car is offered only in black. A choice of red, blue or silver Mopar accent stripe, with color-matching stitching is used in the leather seating. A new, leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter handle are also included.

2011 SRT8 Challenger Interior Spied, More Details Revealed

It’s becoming that time of the year when all the hearsay, off-the-cuff predictions, and just plain old out-f-the-blue guesses finally get either debunked or conspicuously validated. People were consulting their crystal balls, magic 8-balls and whatever other mystical orbs they could reference to predict Chrysler’s next move with the super-successful, “King of the Retro Design” modern muscle car, the Dodge Challenger. Since externally, the Challenger was a home run from the beginning, it made perfect sense for Dodge to leave perfection alone. Inside, though, there were questions, quirks and concerns that needed – at least in the eyes of many – to be addressed.

Externally, the Challenger’s changes are slight, as they ought to be. A revised front chin spoiler and air inlet remain as the only visible cues apart from new door handles.

Left Lane News

It didn’t take too long for the rumors to start a-swirlin’ about next year’s Challenger, most of which circled around a handful of interior upgrades to accompany its poorly secreted powertrain upgrades. Finding this post over on Left Lane News, we got the skinny on the new Challenger.

Under the hood of the base model 2011 Dodge Challenger SE will be Chrysler’s new 3.6-liter V6 engine. With no official output as of right now, we can only speculate at competitor’s V6s produce well over 300hp. Currently, new plant makes 290 horsepower propelling the Jeep Grand Cherokee, so we expect – and hope – for a bit more. As of right now, Challenger’s current five-speed automatic will remain, providing a highway mileage of 26mpg. With its new engine, the Challenger’s base price will increase from $23,695 to $25,305.

The R/T remains relatively unmolested, save for a small highway fuel economy increase due to minor gearing and aerodynamic tweaks, but will see an increase from $31,610 to $32,770.

The Challenger SRT8, though is due for a significant change, an engine swap that many saw coming like a locomotive. Abandoning its 425hp 6.1-liter HEMI for the once Mopar-catalog-only 6.4-liter 392ci elephant is truly some phenomenal news, particularly in light of the upcoming Z/28 and BOSS 302 rivals. While Chrysler remains mum concerning official power figures, it bears noting that the fuel injected crate version of the 392 produces 520hp while the carbureted version erupts with 540-naturally-aspirated-horsepower. Rumors are swirling about a modest 500 horsepower output currently. The other key change for Challenger is the SRT8’s price decrease for 2011, dropping from $43,680 to $43,100.

Inside, the cabin features only minor modifications, changes that many considered overdue for a vehicle of its prestige and price range. Losing the previous model’s four-spoke steering wheel in lieu of the newer three-spoke wheel already featured in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Challenger’s new wheel provides easy access to cruise control, Bluetooth and trip computer controls up front, while revitalizing Chrysler’s favored rear-mounted audio controls, a feature which hadn’t been used on the Challenger previously. While not the drastic changes many had predicted or aspired for, the Challenger will gain an “automatic mode” for its climate control system and some revised gauges and bezels.

The Dodge Tent Event “Invisible Monkey” Video

Posted on: August 13, 2010 – 11:18 am by RLD

This is the updated “Invisible Monkey” video that was created in response to PETA

And yes, we know, chimpanzees aren’t monkeys. That was one of many facts we learned through the process of shooting our latest commercial for the Dodge Tent Event. The commercial features a young chimpanzee (Suzie) in a daredevil suit. She walks up to a detonator, pushes down the lever, and triggers a less-than-huge confetti explosion.

We posted the ad to YouTube, where it garnered thousands of hits and hundreds of comments applauding the commercial for its wit and humor. However, there were a few negative comments about animal cruelty that caught our eye. Next, we received two emails, one from PETA and the other from Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest. Both informed us about the poor conditions of working animal “actors.” They told us how these animals are usually separated from their mothers at a young age and are usually discarded at seedy roadside attractions after they get too old to act.

We were saddened to learn this, and in the spirit of Dodge we wanted to take action. We decided to take the spot off the air, and we stopped a full-page newspaper spread from running. Dodge is firmly committed to never using great apes in our advertisements again. We released a new commercial. The footage is identical, only this time you won’t see Suzie. There’s a twist you won’t miss. Make no mistake – we’re not making light of the issue. We hope our attempt at humor keeps the discussion about animal rights alive … and so far, it seems to be working. You’re here, aren’t you? And now, when people ask “Where’s the monkey?” we can direct them to resources where they can learn more about animal cruelty prevention.

We are not a company that hides behind issues or brushes them under the rug. We are a company that meets issues head on and moves forward. And we promise to keep doing everything in our power to be one of the most honest and forward-thinking companies out there.

Yours truly,

The Dodge Team
