Auburn Hills, Mich. , Nov 9, 2011 – The Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team today announced an exclusive production run of special-edition 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8® 392 Yellow Jacket models featuring Stinger Yellow exterior paint and interior appointments.

Based on the 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392, the Challenger SRT8 Yellow Jacket features a Stinger Yellow body color and black grille surround to match the standard black body-side stripes that highlight the newly developed Yellow Jacket logo on the rear fender. New 20 x 9-inch, five-spoke cast-aluminum wheels with black painted pockets provide a unique performance look.

Inside, the standard leather seats feature an exclusive Stinger Yellow accent band with embroidered Yellow Jacket logo and silver accent stitching. The driver’s seat also features a full adjustable lumbar position with seatback tilt, memory and an easy-to-reach release handle, while the front-passenger seat adds tilt and slide with memory, which makes it even easier for passengers to get in and out of the back seat.

“The Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket adds another piece of performance car nostalgia to our rear-drive muscle coupe lineup in 2012,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT Brand and Motorsports. “The Stinger Yellow paint and interior accents speak directly to the performance enthusiast who appreciates a memorable and collectible color that helps deliver even more excitement and exclusivity.”

The original Dodge “Yellow Jacket” show car, which evolved from the 1970 Challenger, was shown at various auto show exhibits beginning in late 1969. Painted pearlescent Honey Gold, the roadster was powered by the 426-cubic inch HEMI V-8 and carried a number of the famous Dodge “Scat Pack” performance features, such as a unique front spoiler, wider tires, heavy-duty suspension and brakes, and manual transmission, along with the Rallye instrument cluster and shaker hood.

A limited number of 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket models will be built for the U.S. market. All Dodge Challenger models are built at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

The Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket will be available for ordering in December at Dodge dealerships nationwide and will be arriving in U.S. dealer showrooms in the first quarter of 2012.

Dodge Challenger Meets its Demise on Breaking Bad!

If you’re a fan of the AMC’s Emmy award winning show Breaking Bad, you’ll remember the TorRed from last week’s episode.  With its high impact paint and black stripes, it would have been the dream car of any high school kid.  Unfortunately for young Walt Jr., he never had a chance to really enjoy his awesome new ride as his mother insisted his dad return it to the dealership. Walt Sr. wanted to properly “break it in” and give it a rightful send off, but as fate would have it, he got a little carried away.  His drifting antics in a desolate parking lot would have made Samuel Hubinette proud, but the “explosive” ending probably sent shivers up the backs of all our Challenger fans.  Click the links below to see all the exciting action from last Sunday’s episode along with a behind the scenes look into the making of the now infamous episode.

SRT High Performance Tour Rides Into The Buckeye State

Aug 13. Mopar Nationals, Columbus, Ohio – Stop #1

The SRT Tour rolled into the Buckeye State on Saturday morning straight from the Detroit Kickoff Party at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum and made their first of many stops at the Mopar Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.

The stop in Columbus gave old-school, new-school and future Mopar enthusiasts from across the country the opportunity to see the full 2012 SRT Lineup in-person and why there is so much excitement surrounding what is going on with the SRT Brand. The SRT Tour Team stayed busy throughout the day answering questions and doing demonstrations of the features and improvements the SRT Brand vehicles have over their more tame Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep counter-parts.

We got a chance to talk with the SRT Tour Team and there was no doubting that John, Laura, Danny and Barbara were excited about the vehicles, the road ahead and meeting all of the enthusiasts and clubs that have fueled the buzz about these vehicles. If you want them to make a pitstop in your town or want to know where they are headed next, follow them on www.drivesrt.com.

Reliving the Glory Days with Herb “Mr. Four Speed” McCandless

Legendary drag racer Herb “Mr. Four Speed” McCandless says it best, “when I drove for the Sox & Martin Racing Team, Ronnie (Sox) had the best job in the world and I had the second best!” We have to agree as Herb was right in the thick of the Super Stock and Pro Stock wars of the 1960s and early 70s. This was in an era when Detroit pulled out all the stops to win all the major national events. They knew a championship on Sunday would send fans (and customers) flocking into dealerships the following week looking to purchase a 440 Six Pack or ® powered Challenger, ‘Cuda, Charger, Road Runner or Super Bee.  During his time with Sox & Martin, Herb won many events but one of his most memorable wins was defeating fellow Chrysler racer Arlen Vanke in the first ever NHRA Pro Stock Eliminator at the 1970 U.S. Nationals. We recently ran into Herb at the All-Chrysler Nationals last month in Carlisle Pennsylvania where he was gracious enough to tell us a little about the glory days of travelling the country drag racing under the Dodge and Plymouth banner. He also gave us an inside look at his freshly restored 1972 Pro Stock Dodge Demon that he won four out of six United States Racing Team drag events that year. Check out the video and make sure to turn your speakers up because even idling, that high-compression twin-plug HEMI sure sounds angry!

The folks as J.D. Power and Associates conducted their annual Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) survey. The APEAL survey basically looks at how owners of new vehicles like and enjoy driving the car they purchased. Our customers have spoken and the Challenger crossed the finish line first over the Chevrolet Camaro in the Midsize Sporty Car class and the Large Car class, the Charger trumped the Ford Taurus and Nissan Maxima.  When it came to Midsize Crossover/SUV’s, our new Durango leaped over the Ford Flex and Explorer.  Only one other automaker had three vehicles take the gold medal in this year’s APEAL survey.
