The Love Starts on the Inside

Our 2011 Charger has been the talk among the motoring press since it’s introductions a few months back. Journalists and bloggers have commented on the fantastic retro “coke bottle” styling cues ,new tail lamps, hood and side panel scallops that our designers took from the Chargers forefathers of the late 60’s.

All of you enthusiasts and gear heads out there love the abundance of power that the 5.7L HEMI® puts out, but we all know that you go into a high-octane feeding frenzy when the ’s 6.4L fires up and sends that distinct exhaust note through its 4” chrome dual exhaust tips. Beyond the sex appeal of the sumptuous sheet metal and the muscular testosterone laced engines, is the new interior. Our designers showed “a lot of love” to the inside and took the soul from the new body and power train and let the driver’s experience those sensations.

The first order of business on our total interior makeover was the dash, steering wheel and seats because this is the core of any cockpit. Our team started out with a new instrument panel that included a high-impact three dimensional gauge cluster with real billeted aluminum bezel insert. The center console is race inspired and is reminiscent of what one would find in European sedans costing a lot more greenbacks. The driving experience is further enhanced with the new three-spoke leather wrapped feel will let you carve up those twisting roads with ease. Heck, you can now opt for that wheel to be heated which comes in nice during those frigid January mornings in the Snowbelt. Our new seats come in either premium cloth or Nappa leather with some great new colors such as tan, black or even radar red. Go beyond the seating surfaces and you’ll find a brand new design that incorporates a unique serpentine spring suspension for better weight distribution while multiple layers of foam create a “pillow-top” feel provides great support for jaunts across town or across country. Our power 4-way lumbar support eliminates the need for a chiropractor visit after those long road trips and your passengers in the back will dig their heated seats.

Speaking of road trips, our newest generation of entertainment systems has everything but the kitchen sink in the way of technology. You’re in command thanks to the SIRIUS® Satellite Radio, Uconnect® Voice and Web that is WiFi enabled at 3G broadband speeds. The is more than just a hot car, it’s now a “Hotspot”! There’s also a Garmin® Navigation system with an available 8.4” touch screen that would make a space shuttle commander jealous. Now you can now multitask without making a wrong turn, getting stuck in traffic or missing an appointment.

As you can see, we’ve shown the Charger a lot of love for 2011. So much so it’s a whole new relationship between driver and the car. However bring some passengers, there’s enough to go around.

A 2009 Challenger SRT8 Brought Me to The Dodge Brand

The latest story we’re featuring in our user-submitted love series comes from one Harrison Kirby, and starts with an ’09 Challenger SRT8. Yeah, that’ll do it. The SRT8 belonged to a friend who drove Harrison home from school. It was instant love, and after seeing the movie Vanishing Point, he discovered that there was an original Challenger (shame on you for not knowing, Harrison!) and decided these are simply his dream cars. Now, as of last month, he is awaiting a 2011 Challenger SRT8, and he says that he checks for production updates from literally every day. Welcome to the family, Harrison.

2012 Charger SRT8 – Stronger, Faster, Smarter

Posted on: February 9, 2011 – 10:20 am by RLD

Today at the Chicago Auto Show, Dodge will reveal the new 2012 Charger SRT8 to a crowd of automotive journalists from around the globe.

Hot on heels of the 2011 Challenger SRT8 392, the rubber on the pavement has hardly had a chance to cool with today’s announcement of the 2012 Charger SRT8. This further reinforces the Dodge name as a performance brand.

So with that being said, let’s get into the juicy details of the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8. Under the hood is the new 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 with an estimated 465 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque (the SRT gear heads aren’t quite done tweaking). What makes this even better is the standard Fuel Saver Technology (four-cylinder mode) on the 6.4-liter HEMI that will improve fuel efficiency over the previous model. Other internal goodies include a high-lift camshaft and active intake manifold that will provide increased low-end torque along with more top-end power. Our SRT engineers are able to achieve this by altering the runner length inside the manifold based on engine speed.

For the first time in any Chrysler Group LLC SRT product, standard paddle shift technology joins the standard AutoStick on the floor shifter on the 2012 Charger SRT8. Both will be mated to the proven W5A580 five-speed automatic transmission and both shifting techniques will allow the driver to have some fun going through the gearbox but the performance calibrated transmission controller will help keep you out of the red line.

The new Charger SRT8 also received a makeover in the ride and handling department. An adaptive damping suspension takes driver inputs and will automatically tune the suspension for specific conditions. For those of you looking to shrink time and distance, a “Sport” setting is available while the “Auto” setting may be appropriate for those morning commutes.

From a styling standpoint, the Charger SRT8 will stand out among its cousins. With its aggressive front and rear fascias, a new rear spoiler and a sculptured hood complete with 6.4L HEMI badges, the folks in the lane next to you will quickly know what you’re all about.

The interior also gets massaged as a new leather-wrapped SRT exclusive steering wheel and carbon-weave, fiber aluminum trim pieces. The front seats will have an aggressive bolstering to help keep you in place when you take your ride to an SRT Track Experience. Speaking of performance driving, the new instrument panel display can be customized to include instant driver feedback such as 0-60 mph and quarter-mile times along with g-forces and much more with the exclusive performance section.

Look for the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 to arrive in your dealer showrooms later this year.

Chicago 2011: Dodge Challenger goes Green With Envy

Dodge is spicing up the Challenger line with a new eye-searing paint color. The hue is called Green With Envy, and it’s supposed to pay homage to some of the wilder colors from the company’s past, including Sublime and Green Go. Buyers will be able to grab their new green Challenger in one of two configurations, including a new R/T Classic that serves up the company’s 372-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engine with two A-line body stripes. The accents are available in either matte black or white.Hit the jump for the full press blast.

For those who need a little more bite with their bark, Chrysler is also serving up the Challenger SRT8 in the new paint. In that trim, owners can enjoy the same 470-horsepower 6.4-liter V8 engine found in the Challenger SRT8 392, and the muscle bruisers will be differentiated by full-body black stripes. Likewise, the interior will enjoy Green With Envy accented seats.

Look to pony up around $35,785 for the Challenger R/T Classic Green With Envy and $44,875 for the SRT8 iteration. Both prices include destination.

2012 Dodge Charger SRT8

Dodge has dropped the Street and Racing Technology motherlode on the eve of the Chicago Auto Show and first out of the gate is the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 – what Eminem should’ve rolled in during the Super Bowl.

As with anything birthed from Chrysler’s in-house tuning division, the Charger SRT8 is all about the engine, so the transformation begins with the new 6.4-liter HEMI V8 putting out 465 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque – a boost of some 80 lb-ft over the old 6.1-liter mill. That torquey wave comes on at 2,900 rpm and Dodge claims that with the fitment of its Fuel Saver tech, allowing the engine to run on four cylinders when its not under load, fuel economy will improve, although Dodge isn’t saying how much.

Chrysler’s W5A580 five-speed automatic transmission backs up the HEMI, and you can select your own gears by either slapping the AutoStick or thumbing the steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifters.

All that adds up to an estimated top speed of 175 mph, a 0-60 mph time in the high fours and a quarter-mile run deep into the 12s.

In addition to the five-spoke, 20-inch forged aluminum and polished wheels, the SRT crew saw fit to equip the SRT8 with an adaptive damping suspension with Auto and Sport settings that process speed, steering angle, brake pressure, throttle application and lateral acceleration. Brakes are sized 14.2-inches up front and 13.8-inches in the rear, with a new front fascia, LED taillamps and four-inch dual exhausts rounding out the exterior mods. And naturally, the interior isn’t left out in the cold, with a flat-bottom steering wheel, heavily bolstered seats and a 900-watt, 19-speaker audio system courtesy of Harmon Kardon.

We’ll be on the floor tomorrow to snag live pics of all the SRT-fettled goodies, but in the meantime, peep the gallery below and get all the details in the press release after the jump.
